Disco Volante is a concept for a fully automatic, wall-mounted turntable that aims to be a statement piece in one’s interior. It deconstructs the classic turntable design, breaking it down into individual elements for aesthetical as well as functional reasons. At the heart of this design philosophy is the striking juxtaposition between the vibrant, organic-looking tonearm housing and the machined, sober steel framework. This separation elevates the tonearm housing, transforming it into what seems like an independent entity serenading the vinyl.
With Disco Volante I wanted to utilize each materials unique properties and characteristics, and by doing so letting them largely influence the form. The steel framework offers a rigid foundation for the turntable, meanwhile the molded, funky plastic tonearm housing plays the main role visually. The overall proportions and composition were also well thought out to aesthetically create a well-balanced architecture.
